The President’s Report: Adam Hill Reflects on 2021, Looks Ahead to 2022
The President’s Report 2021
Dear Clients, Partners, Vendors, and Friends –
Another year has come and gone — what a year it was. In keeping with tradition (albeit, a bit belated), I proudly bring you our 2021 President’s Report. While change has made itself a constant this past year, three things will never waver for us at Scarbrough as we move into a new year are our values of Faith – Family – Work.
Learning to Thrive in a New Environment
At this time last year, our team remained in work-from-home. But 2021 did eventually bring with it a return to office life and a reminder of how precious time with our team is. This semblance of normalcy has been a welcome change of pace across the organization.
I was recently asked to compare my current mindset as we move into 2022 with my mindset one year ago. I must be honest, starting 2021 felt like a continuation of the survival mindset. However, as I look further into 2022, a different priority comes to mind – to thrive.
A Year of Business Growth and Development
For The Scarbrough Group as a whole, we finished rolling out a newly refreshed brand image and a fully redesigned website. If you have followed us for any length of time, you have seen a revised and revitalized social media presence that reflects the level of professionalism we show our clients day-in and day-out. In addition, we are doubling our efforts to invest in new talent and technology within our newly created People Operations department.
In addition to our group-level progress, our operating companies saw significant progress in 2021 as well.
Scarbrough Warehousing was our fastest-growing company. In 2021, we tripled our warehouse footprint in Kansas City by moving into a 226,000-square-foot space in Liberty, MO. Our new facility brought with it significant investments in racking, all electric lifts, and upgraded technology. Stay tuned for more exciting news in early 2022 from Scarbrough Warehousing.
Scarbrough Transportation saw a doubling in both business and staff in 2021 that created a need for additional leadership. I am excited that Mr. Geoff Chambers joined our team in October as Director, 3PL Solutions. Geoff will lead Transportation into 2022 and beyond with his experience and dedication to his craft. Look for Transportation to build on its 2021 successes and bring you more holistic 3PL solutions as we head into 2022.
Scarbrough Logistics posted its best year on record, growing its fleet by 25 percent in 2021. We are looking to grow it another 20 percent in 2022. In addition to this growth, we have started building a new fleet of straight trucks that look to bump a dock near you just after the start of the New Year.
Scarbrough International saw more than a 50 percent increase in business this past year. Once again, that came with a significant jump in staffing along with new leadership. I could not be more excited that Ms. Amy Rice decided to join us as Vice President & Managing Director for Scarbrough International. Her employee- and client-centric approach builds on our tradition of growing the company one client and one employee at a time. International saw more than its share of chaos in 2021 within the global supply chain — unfortunately, we expect more of the same for 2022.
Scarbrough Consulting continued to provide insight to our growing client base, helping them find ways to cut costs and remain compliant. With all the upheaval in international trade, I am excited to see what is in store for them in 2022.
Looking Ahead and Wishing You Well
It was a harrowing year for those in the logistics business – with the news surrounding the supply chain and its issues, I often joke that my family finally understands what we do all day now! Yet, with all the uncertainty, we look forward to the opportunities in the year to come. Look out for more exciting news from Scarbrough as we move further into 2022 — we have a lot in store for you.
In closing, it is my sincere hope that you were able to enjoy time with friends and family this past Holiday season. Without them to share in the joys & triumphs, along with their shoulders to lean on, we would all be worse off.
Adam Hill
