A prolonged hot, dry summer has created drought conditions in Europe and reduced major rivers to record lows. Executive Order to Accelerate Chip Production Law
President Joe Biden signed an executive order Thursday to accelerate the implementation of a new semiconductor production law. According to Transport Topics the order establishes a committee to help steer the law toward its goals. American manufacturers have struggled with computer chip shortages since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Border-Crossing Expansion Efforts Underway in Texas, California
FreightWaves reports that the Mexican Ambassador to the United States praised efforts to expand border-crossing infrastructure in both California and Texas. New projects aim to reduce crossing times, traffic congestion, and more at some of the border’s busiest crossings.
AB5 Protests Shrunk Cargo Volumes at Port of Oakland
As predicted by many in the industry, truckers’ protests against AB5 impacted productivity at the Port of Oakland. Supply Chain Dive reports that the port saw a year-over-year July volume decline of 28 percent.
