ATA Truck Tonnage Index on the Rise
Domestic freight demand is on the rise this spring, according to the American Trucking Association (ATA). The ATA’s seasonally adjusted truck tonnage rate rose 3.6% from April to May, marking the first increase in that index since February 2023.
The year over year adjusted rate also increased by 1.5%, the time that’s happened in more than a year. While these are encouraging signs, that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re seeing a full recovery.
“It is still too early to say whether this is the start of a long-awaited recovery in the truck freight market,” said ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello.
