As Hurricane Joaquin approaches the East Coast, The Port of Virginia Team, is committed to being accessible, mindful and helpful, and plans to keep you – our valued customers – informed. The safety of our colleagues, facilities and your cargo are our top priority.
Hurricanes are extremely difficult to predict in terms of exact storm track and associated impacts. There is always a high degree of variability and that is certainly the case with Hurricane Joaquin. We are closely monitoring Joaquin via forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia.
Over the last 48-72 hours, our Operations, Maintenance and IT Teams have employed proven strategies for hurricane preparation on our terminals, including:
Grounding empty containers
Securing and sand-bagging warehouse doors
Securing and fueling generators
Checking UPS systems and backups to insure data integrity
