KCSM’s Main Line Interruption
Declaration of Force Majeure
Following our notification and update over the last two days about the status of KCSM’s main line interruption at Caltzontzin, Michoacan as of 0800 hours on Dec 10, 2015, we notify you that the manifestation formed by groups of people not related to KCSM is continuing to block the tracks.
This manifestation was organized against the government of Michoacan as the members are demanding the release of students and teachers jailed by the state.
Irrespective of the close contact held by the various levels of government and the manifestation leaders, the negotiations have not concluded yet and the manifestation continues active. Thus, we are not able to estimate or control when we can reopen the line.
This mainline interruption has not only affected the service to and from the Port of Lazaro Cardenas, but is has now affected all of KCSM’s rail network.
Given this situation, which is not in the control of our company, Kansas City Southern de México, S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) declares Force Majeure retroactively effective as of Dec 10, 2015 which is when the interruption of its main line started.
Kansas City Southern de México continues working in conjunction with the three levels of government to resolve the situation to be able to open up the line and reestablish the service as soon as possible.
We appreciate your patience for these service delays and the resultant Force Majeure caused by this unfortunate event.
We will continue to make our best effort to provide you with uninterrupted service along the rest of our network.
