Zero Emissions Fee may be in our Future

According to the Journal of Commerce, there is a new proposed fee on cargo moving through California ports, which will aim to support the state’s environmental efforts.  The South Coast Air Quality management District (AQMD) may impose a $100 per TEU fee, but the proposal still has to be adopted by the state legislature first.  This obviously raises concern for shippers, especially for shippers with a lot of volume, as every $100 per TEU adds up quickly.

But importers, don’t worry quite yet.  The proposal has yet to find a legislative sponsor.

The proposal supports regulations for use of zero (and near-zero) emission trucks and cargo-handling equipment in California.
