So-Cal Ports Yet Again Delay Container Dwell Charges
For the third time, the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have postponed the start of their planned excess container dwell fees. The third consecutive delay comes as the ports continue to see progress in removing long-dwelling containers.
CMA CGM Starts Container Pick-Up Incentive Program at LA/LB
Carrier giant CMA CGM is trying a different strategy to prompt quicker removal of containers from terminals at Los Angeles and Long Beach. Shippers have an eight-day window to pick up containers from CMA CGM terminals. Doing so within the window earns a $100 per container credit for daytime weekday pickups – night and weekend pickups garner a $200 credit.
Northern Plains Winds Threaten Truckers This Week
High winds throughout the northern Great Plains pose threats to truckers in the region this week. According to FreightWaves, windy conditions have already toppled multiple rigs. High winds have also been reported in western New York and Pennsylvania.
Improvised Container Yards Add Needed Storage Capacity
Impromptu container yards have started to crop up throughout the country to make room away from terminals for inbound freight. Near Los Angeles/Long Beach, Walmart has converted a formerly empty lot into a space that now processes 500 containers per day. The Georgia Port Authority is pursuing similar measures.
