President Trump announced on Wednesday that he would issue a one-month pause on his new tariffs on cars and auto part imports that qualify for USMCA treatment. After saying there would be no exemptions when he first imposed the new 25% tariffs, he is now giving a reprieve to the auto industry after meeting the U.S.’s “Big Three” automakers on Wednesday. We are hearing from a source close to the agreement that this reprieve will apply to all autos and auto parts for the time being. In a statement, President Trump claimed this would allow American automakers a chance to move production back into the U.S., so they aren’t at a major economic disadvantage.

At this time, we don’t know if he will walk back any of his other tariffs in the coming days or weeks. We are hoping to see full confirmation of this announcement from the White House in the coming days.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as needed. If you have specific questions about this, please reach out to your Scarbrough representative directly for further guidance.
